Colo + Hawkesbury: Bell to Wyong
Suggested duration: 3 days
Notes: This is an excellent ride linking up some beautiful sections of dirt riding, and with a couple of beautiful secluded campgrounds. The distances are a bit longer than our regular rides, so make sure you're time efficient when riding.
Day 1 (73km)
Catch the train along the Blue Mountains line, and get off at Bell (you'll probably need to let the guard know in advance or they won't stop there). Ride very carefully along the narrow Bells Line of Road, then turn off to Mt Wilson. Follow the road past Mt Irvine and down to Bowens Creek. Cross the decaying bridge and go up the eroded fire trail to rejoin Bells Line of Road for 2km. Then turn off to ride through Mountain Lagoon and the beautiful dirt descent to the Colo River. Camp at Colo Meroo campground.
Day 2 (97km)
Ride up to Putty Rd, ride along it for a short while then turn onto Wheelbarrow Ridge Rd. This turns into the rougher Wheelbarrow Ridge Trail, and then heads down to the Hawkesbury. Stock up on food at Wisemans Ferry, then continue north to St Albans. Keep going and climb up a dirt road to the Mogo Campground.
Day 3 (52km)
Continue up the dirt hill to the sealed road, then ride carefully along until you get to turn off onto the dirt again. Enjoy the beautiful dirt descent to Comleroy Rd. There's a cafe at Comleroy to grab a snack before you roll in to Wyong.
Take the train from Wyong back to Sydney.
