Ian wanted to do some long-distance off-road riding, but a back injury meant he needed to be comfortably upright while riding. He wanted something that would be as suited to loading up fins, snorkel and wetsuit and riding down to the beach, as it was loading up with a full set of panniers and going for multi-day bikepacking trips.
