Matching tyre pairs for Omniums (20 and 29")
If you have an Omnium bike, you've probably thought about what tyres you can fit, but run into the issue of tyres that only come in 20", or only 29", but not both. Of course you can always run non-matching tyres, but if you clicked on this you probably don't want to do that!
The tyre clearance of the Omnium V3 Mini-Max and Cargo is 55mm (2.15"). That restricts the options somewhat. Here's what we've found works well:
The stock option: Schwalbe Big Ben Plus
This is what comes on stock Omniums, and for a good reason - it's a great tyre, pretty puncture resistant, and fast rolling. It's available both in 20" and 29" in 2.15" width.
The gravel option: Panaracer GravelKing X1
If you're looking for a high-quality tubeless-ready option for mixed terrain, it's hard to go past the Panaracer GravelKing. They've been a popular choice among our staff for bikepacking rides for many years. For the front you can get a 20 x 2.1" tyre, and for the rear either a 700 x 45 or 700 x 50.
The tanwall option: Schwalbe G-One
Thanks to Brompton's G Line model, we can now get a 20" G-One tyre, and we have 700x45 rear tyres to match.
The budget off-road option: Maxxis Pace V2
This is a fairly knobbly tyre, designed for off-road riding. It's a wirebead tyre, which means it's not suitable for tubeless, but if you're happy running a tube and don't mind being a bit slower on the pavement, this is a good choice. Available in 2.1" front and rear. These are a special order for us so they're not on our website, but send us an email if you want some.
