Explained: The new Apidura Expedition 2.0 Range

Apidura recently launched a new range of Expedition bags, their drop-bar adventure lineup. Their priorities in doing this were stability, waterproofness, and durability, and that's what these bags accomplish.

Here's what's new in the range:

Saddle packsThe new Apidura saddle packs have a redesigned cradle that hugs the seatpost better and reduces sway. There's more reinforcement internally to reduce sagging, and stronger attachment of straps to the bags to prevent rare detachments. There's also a 3-prong light mount on the back of the pack, to make it easier to attach rear lights. There are 3 sizes: 9L, 13L, 16L.

Half frame packs and Full frame packs: The new frame packs have internal reinforcing rods to support the zips, so it's easier to open the zips one-handed (and harder to break them). They also use new waterproof zips, and have more internal structure. Half-frame and full-frame packs of a given size are designed for the same top-tube length. The attachment straps line up between frame bags and top tube bags, so you can double-up with one strap. The old velcro straps are gone, replaced with new cam-lock Hypalon straps, and these straps have silicone inside which reduces bag movement, so it's been possible to reduce the number of straps (e.g. there are no more seat tube straps for half frame packs).

Top tube packs: The new top tube packs have different profiles, the smaller packs will be shorter vertically instead of shorter horizontally.

Handlebar packs: These use new quick-release hardware that's slightly set-off from the bar, so you have more usable hand positions, and less movement of the pack. This hardware will have 3-prong mounts for a computer and/or light. The roll closures on the ends of the packs will have hooks, with loops on the underneath of the bag, to reduce the profile of the closure (and allow you to fit more in the bag for a given width of drop bar). There are two new options for attaching additional equipment, the Cargo Mesh and the Front Pack.
